TSG conducted a survey of 506 consumers in the U.S., with the goal of understanding the impact COVID-19 has had on U.S. consumer spending. The survey was conducted from April 7th to April 8th, 2020.

As payment providers look to respond and support their merchants during this time of uncertainty it is important to understand the regional trends that are unfolding, which in turn impact the consumers that shop at their stores.

Did You Know?

  • Since the outbreak, spending on grocery has increased as expected. Areas such as the east coast have led the increase in spend for this particular category.
  • Pharmacies and take-out only restaurants have also seen an increase in spending with the highest
    increases seen in the South Atlantic and Pacific regions.
  • Consumers in the New England region are the most unsure about the prospects of the U.S. economy recovery after COVID-19.
